I was looking for working config for the combination of apache mod_fastcgi and PHP-FPM and could not find any. I mean there were plenty of examples and discussions but none of them were operational. The closest was the article on server-world.info site.
Based on that information I was able to put together working configuration for multiple virtual hosts.

PHP Catchable fatal error: Object of class Savant2_Error could not be converted to string

This was the tale of my last couple of days. One of our long time customers was moving a bunch of web sites from various web hosting providers to her dedicated server.
As usual there was all kinds of kinks and problems during her attempts to reconfigure her web sites. Some of her sites are using Savant template system and was showing unusual behavior – request to the front page was returning status 500 – server error and while content was displaying the design of the content was altered. Unable to figure out the problem she asked for help.

Sysadmin: how to configure nginx for Jelix PHP framework

nginxjelix I had to migrate to nginx web server some web application written using Jelix PHP framework and I’ve hard a problem with Jelix URLs that look like http://domain.com/site/script.php/arg1/arg2/arg3. Originally Jelix requires “Options +MultiViews” and “AcceptPathInfo on” in Apache config, neither of which are available on nginx. It took a while to find proper solution.

Hosting: Howto redirect domain to another domain.

There is always a question on how to completely redirect some src-domain to another dst-domain properly.

Apache, PHP, SuEXEC: added security and control

As we know from original article using Apache, PHP in CGI mode along with suExec gives us 2 important security advantages:
– suExec allows to run PHP process with (only) the file owner user privileges, enforcing proper permissions on PHP scripts and thus allowing to avoid cross-site exploits on the server that is running multiple dynamic web sites;
– per site php.ini.
That gives some unique opportunities for securing separate web sites on the server.

Apache, PHP, SuEXEC: when it just wouldn’t work out.

Looks like I will have a lot to say on this topic still. By now I’ve collected some cases when you can not use PHP in FastCGI mode and to keep the sites running you will need to abandon suEXEC nice and clean privilege separation mechanism in favor of mod_php/ASAPI.
