A week ago we’ve bought [amazon_link id=”B003GSLU3E” target=”_blank” ]MacBook Pro MC374LL/A 13.3″[/amazon_link] for my wife. I had 4Gb SO-DIMM lying around – leftover from my unsuccessfull attempt to stuff HP Mini 311 with 5GB ram, so I decided to bump Macbook RAM to 6Gb.
As it turned out this is not your regular Macbook Pro – “just press the tab on the bottom to unlock battery cover…”
Since I couldn’t find any instructions on the web I decided to try it myself and put together short instruction.
Difficulty: Easy
Time needed: About 15 min.
Tools: Phillips #000 – I recommend [amazon_link id=”B0006JLLMQ” target=”_blank” ]Husky Precision Screwdriver Kit[/amazon_link] – works perfectly (I just love it and use for all of my fix/DIY hardware projects).
- Power the Macbook down and lay it screen down on flat surface – I’ve used some ugly bath towel.
- Carefully(and I mean it – if you break the head you will need to drill the screw out and it will look ugly on your shiny new Macbook Pro) unscrew bottom row of 4 small screws, then 2 side screws, and finally upper row – upper left is smaller, and other 3 are long. Carefully lift the cover.
- There are 2 navy 2Gb 204pin DDR3 SO-DIMM visible right over the battery. Locks are cheap plasic – be careful not to break.
- Put the cover back, screw back 3 long screws back and power on your Macbook
- Put back the rest of the screws and congratulate yourself – you just saved yourself some (considerable amount of) money and hassle going to Apple for the upgrade.
